IN the Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful

As Founding Dean of the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, I would like to extend a very warm welcome.  The establishment and continuing growth of QFIS is a truly momentous occasion. In a wonderful sense, this is the outcome of the generous vision and patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned combined with a personal odyssey that extends back several years, and the relentless efforts of an outstanding group of individuals. The importance and utility of our vision to become a beacon of thought and dialogue in all that relates to Islam and Muslims, and to build a unique institution that thrives on engaging global partners is profound.  From our inception we have been driven by a desire to inspire thought and action based on the plurality and tolerance of Islamic Jurisprudence and civilization. We believe that clarifying the spirit of our Islamic heritage and its ability to serve all of humanity through its dynamic contributions to the arts and sciences is a critical mission in today's world.

As you will discover in this site, we currently offer a variety of graduate programmes that offer students choices regarding the lens with which they wish to explore Islamic scholarship. To complement and strengthen these offerings QFIS is establishing several research centres that will house distinguished scholars and fellows from around the world. Moreover, our Languages Centre reinforces the centrality of the Arabic language to Islamic studies while also emphasizing the globalism of English and the prevalence of its use in many facets of life. Such openness underscores our belief that strong local and international outreach is integral to the success of our mission. And as we have extended our friendship and expertise to renowned global institutions and scholars, so too have we been approached. We look forward to cultivating these and many more partnerships in the years to come.

As Founding Dean, I am particularly appreciative and grateful for the efforts of every member of our faculty and staff. I am also proud of our first cohort of students whose perseverance in the pursuit of knowledge can only be commended. Please accept my invitation to celebrate these moments with us.

Finally, I hope that you find this site informative and that you do not hesitate to contact us for further assistance should you require.
