

Visit of Mr. Alderman Nick Anstee,Lord Mayor of the City of London 2009/2010 to QFIS
QFIS invited on 10th February 2010 a distinguished delegation from the United Kingdom. The delegation is led by Alderman Nick Anstee, the 682nd Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Mr. Anstee took office on Friday 13th November 2009. As Lord Mayor he promotes the Square Mile as the world's leading international financial and business centre, and one of his aims is to sponsor the spread of financial literacy. More
QFIS Hosted a workshop entitled (Fundamentals of Islamic Finance and its Monetary complex Products)
On Thursday 7th January 2010 QFIS celebrated the graduation of its sixth group after completing a workshop entitled (Fundamentals of Islamic Finance and its Monetary complex Products). Dr. Monzer Kahf, the Islamic finance Professor at the Faculty, prepared and presented this workshop to Qatar Central Bank Employees. QFIS host a Seminar on a Prudential and Governance Framework for Islamic Finance examined the role of the Islamic financial industry against the background of the current financial crisis. This Seminar on Prudential and Governance Framework for Islamic Finance aimed at highlighting various prudential and governance issues relevant to the Islamic financial services industry and to share some insights into several initiatives that have been carried out by the IFSB in promoting good governance practices that would enhance the soundness and stability of the industry. Oxford University has created a new chair in Contemporary Islamic Studies with the support of a benefaction from the Qatar Foundation.
The endowment of the His Highness Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Chair in Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University will include a programme of activities and includes a secondment at the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies. QFIS moves to interim location in LAS
This summer QFIS moved from its temporary location in Qatar Academy to the Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Building. Although this is still a temporary location for QFIS, our staff and faculty have worked hard to give our new premises a fitting character and atmosphere. Our facilities now boast more space including four classrooms, four conference rooms, a spacious library and a computer lab. All our facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. In addition, our students will be able to relax, reflect, and debate in three student lounges designed with these purposes in mind.
Dr. Hatem El Karanshawy Talks about the Global Financial Crisis on Al Jazeera
On October 14, 2008 Dr. El Karanshawy joined three other guests on Al Jazeera to discuss the causes, consequences, and remedies to the global financial crisis. The panelists debated the impacts of the crisis on real economies at different stages of development as well as possible remedies to mitigate the duration and intensity of the crisis. In this regard, the benefit of a finance-based vis-ą-vis a credit-based system was explored. Significantly, the role of finance concepts based on Islamic principles in overcoming key challenges of the global financial system and substantially reducing the possibility of reoccurrence were emphasized as has been corroborated by key international actors.
